Seminoles Lose to No. 12 Tigers, 7-0

Tallahassee, Fla. – The No. 34 Florida State women’s tennis team (9-10, 4-6 ACC) were swept in doubles and singles for the first time this year against the No. 12 Clemson Tigers in Clemson, S.C. on Sunday, April 10, 2005. The Seminoles were swept in doubles for only the third time this season. FSU lost the doubles point for the sixth time overall.

At number one doubles, #53 Julie Coin and Alix Lacelarie came back from being down against senior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and junior Lindsay Deason (Ft. Myers, Fla./Boca Raton Prep) to win 8-5. At flight number two, Daniela Alvarez and Maria Brito also won 8-5 over sophomore Roxanne Clarke (Cape Town, South Africa/Clapham) and senior Amberly Tantee (Dana Point, Calif./Futures). Freshman Tapiwa Marobela (Garborone, Botswana/Clapham) and senior Natalie Tirapelli (St. Petersburg, Fla./Connecticut) lost 8-3 to Romy Farah and Ioana Paun.

Moldovan dropped her fourth overall singles match of the season to the second-best player in the nation in Coin, 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-3). Clarke also lost to a ranked opponent, #80 Romy Farah by a score of 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3).
