Sophomore Caroline Larsson shot a one-under par 71 and senior Katie Quinney finished with an even par score of 70 to lead the Florida State women’s golf team to a tournament-best 295 team score in the third round of the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship at the Grand National Golf Course. The Seminoles moved from a tie for 17th place after two rounds into 14th place with half of the field still on the course.
The final team and individual results will be available at approximately 9:00 p.m. CDT.
Florida State, paired with Arizona and Arizona State, finished the round with a team total d 295 – its best of the tournament by six strokes. The Seminoles 295 team score was tied for the second best of the morning wave behind only Arizona State’s 291 and tied with Baylor’s identical score of 295. Florida State shot 301 in both the first and second rounds of the event.
The Seminoles’ 295 team score is their fourth best team score for a single round this season.
Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) played her best round of the spring season as she finished with four birdies, 10 holes of par and only three bogies. She finished two-under par on the front nine and one-under par on the back nine. Larsson played a near-perfect back nine with eight holes of par and only one bogie. The one-under par 71 was her best round in seven career NCAA Championship rounds.
Quinney (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) also played well with four birdies, 10 holes at par and only four bogies. She was even on both the front and back halves of the course. Quinney has improved her score in both the second and third rounds after shooting a 77 Tuesday and a 74 Wednesday.
Quinney is tied in the individual standings with teammate Carrie Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) – both with scores of 223 – as Sordel carded a one-over par 73 in Wednesday’s third round. Sordel has carded two consecutive rounds of one-over par 73 after finishing with a 77 in Tuesday’s first round. She was one-over par on the front nine and even par on the back, fired four birdies and was never more than two-over during the entire round.
Freshman Jaclyn Burch (Wildwood, Mo.) and senior Alison Curdt (St. Louis, Mo.) are also competing for the Seminoles. Burch carded a 79 while Curdt finished with an 86. Curdt opened the tournament with a near-career-low 70 in the first round.
Final individual and team standings and well as pairings for the fourth and final round of the championship will be posted at the completion of Thursday’s third round. The Seminoles are expected to tee of in the morning’s first round.
