Dec. 25, 2005

Tucson, AZ – After starting the 2005 season outside of the top 15 in every national poll, the 2006 Florida State baseball team will open the upcoming season in the top 10 of at least one poll. The Seminole baseball team was pegged eighth in the first poll of the year released by Collegiate Baseball magazine. This is the 293rd consecutive week that FSU has been ranked in the magazine’s poll.

Florida State is one of four ACC teams to start the season in the top 10 and there are five ACC schools in the top 11 of the poll. Six of FSU’s 2006 opponents are ranked in collegiate baseball’s oldest poll. The highest-ranked opponent is Florida. The runners-up to the 2005 title open the season right where they left off last year at No. 2 in the nation. The Seminoles will face four ACC opponents who will start the year in the top 11. Clemson is the highest-ranking ACC team at No. 6. North Carolina is ranked seventh, Georgia Tech tenth and Miami 11th. FSU will also face Winthrop who checks in at No. 28 in the inaugural poll.
