Seminoles Open ACC Play Against Georgia Tech

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State baseball team begins Atlantic Coast Conference action this weekend when it hosts unbeaten Georgia Tech for a three-game set on Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium.

The series is being featured as part of the ESPN3 package with Jonathan Schillace and Chip Baker providing the commentary.

Georgia Tech, who ranks in four polls, is the first top 25 program that the Noles have faced this season. Florida State is ranked in the top 15 of six polls, including 11th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.   

The series begins at 6 p.m. on Friday when Florida State head coach Mike Martin sends Mike Compton (2-1, 2.16 ERA) to the mound to face the Yellow Jackets’ Brandon Gold (1-0, 2.00 ERA). The Seminoles are in search of their 23rd win in the opening game of an ACC series opener since joining the league in 1992.

Saturday’s matchup, also set to start at 6 p.m., will feature Florida State’s Drew Carlton (3-0, 1.50) who looks to provide the Noles with their 23rd series victory when opening ACC play. Georgia Tech’s starter is undetermined at this time.

Florida State (10-3) concludes its first of 10 ACC series this season on Sunday when the Noles send Cole Sands (2-1, 1.84 ERA) to the mound. Georgia Tech (12-0) will counter with right hander Jonathan Hughes who enters the game 3-0 overall with a 0.50 ERA.
