TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –The Florida State men’s tennis team (9-2, 0-0) returns to the courts this weekend to open conference play. The Seminoles take on Georgia Tech (6-1, 0-0) on Saturday, February 22, at noon.

Later that afternoon, Florida State returns to the courts to take on FAU (5-5) at 6:00 pm. Both matches are set to be played at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

“We always value our ACC conference record so we look forward to opening conference play,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “Georgia Tech is one of the most improved teams from last year having already upset an SEC top 20 team in the country. They always do a great job of coaching and getting their guys ready to play.”

Junior Cristian Gonzalez Mendez is ranked No. 98 in the nation while holding a 17-2 mark this year. This spring No. 112 junior Dominic Cotrone is 8-3 while freshman Grayson Goldin is a perfect 7-0.

In doubles play, Cotrone and senior Blake Davis are ranked No. 51 in the nation while posting a 7-1 dual match record. Goldin and sophomore Marco Nunez are 4-2 this year.

Last season, Florida State topped Georgia Tech 4-3 with returning Seminole Michael Rinaldi winning his singles match. Davis and Cotrone teamed up last year to help win the doubles point. Against FAU, the Seminoles swept both singles and doubles to win 7-0.

Georgia Tech has the No. 15 doubles team in the nation in Carlos Benito and Eduardo Segura and the No. 33 duo of Nathan Rakitt and Cole Fiegel.

“We really look forward to playing at home,” continue Hultquist. “We hope to have a large crowd to support the team. We are ready to get back out there and get some tennis in this weekend.”
