TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State is the top-ranked team in the
first 1999 Jeff Sagarin Computer Football Poll, released Tuesday.
FSU is followed by Florida at No. 2. The Seminoles and Gators will
square off in the regular season finale for both teams on Nov. 20 in
Gainesville. Nebraska, Ohio State and defending national champion
Tennessee rounded out the top five.
Four other Florida State opponents are ranked in the top 30:
Virginia 13th, North Carolina 21st, Mimai 22nd and Georgia Tech 30th.
FSU’s other 1999 opponents and their rankings follow: North Carolina State
(41), Clemson, (52), Louisiana Tech (72), Wake Forest (75), Maryland (78)
and Duke (83).
Sagarin’s ratings, based on a complex mathematical formula that
takes several factors into account, is among eight computer rankings to be
used this season in determining the Bowl Championship Series standings.
