Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State track and field team will open the 2005 outdoor campaign with the Snowbird Invitational taking place March 4-5, 2005 at the Mike Long Track Complex. Field events begin on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with the hammer throw while running events begin at 5:00 p.m. with the 400m hurdles. Saturday’s schedule starts with the javelin at 9:30 a.m. and the 4x100m relay at 11:00 a.m.
The Seminoles are coming off a successful 2004 outdoor campaign in which the men’s and women’s teams were well represented at the ACC Championships, NCAA East Regional and NCAA National Championships. Four individuals, two who return for the 2005 campaign, and one relay earned All-American honors at the NCAA meet in Austin, Texas. Three of the four legs of the All-American relay that finished third in the nation and recorded one of the fastest times in the 2004 season as well as FSU-school history will don Garnet and Gold this year.
The men’s team has another strong freshman class ready to compete. Depth in just about every event should make the outdoor season very interesting as the Noles look to retake their stake at the top of the league as well as score points on the national scene. If the indoor season is any indication of what’s to come for FSU, the Tribe will be among the best by the time nationals roll around at the beginning of June.
On the women’s side, a young team will rely on their outdoor talent and hard work to propel them to the top four in the conference. With a strong junior class expected to finish big, the Seminoles are on the edge of something big in the track world. A good group of sophomores, with a year of experience under their belts should be the determining factor in the squad’s success at conference, regionals and the national championships meet.
Results will be posted at the end of competition each day on www.seminoles.com. For questions surrounding entry or more meet information, contact the FSU track and field office at (850) 644-3270.
