No. 22 FSU vs. No. 26
Sunday, April 16
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State community will bid farewell to senior Chris Westerhof, as the school’s all-time leading doubles players will play his final regular season home match at Scott Speicher Tennis Center on Sunday against No. 26 Wake Forest at 1pm. In four years as a Seminole, Westerhof has logged over 90 doubles victories and advanced to post season play every season. He and his partner Ytai Abougzir are currently ranked No. 20 in the nation as a tandem.
No. 22 FSU enters Sunday’s match with a 14-10 overall record and a 7-3 ACC mark. The Demon Deacons are 14-8 on the season and 6-4 in league action after falling to No. 10 Miami, 5-2, on Friday. The Deacons sent three singles matches into a third set but failed to win any of those matches.
The team is led by Todd Paul, ranked No. 13 in the nation, and Andrew Hamar, ranked No. 94. Abougzir and junior Jonathas Sucupira will likely match up with them at the No. 1 and 2 singles positions. Wake Forest’s lone ranked doubles pair of Paul and Hamar will face the Abougzir/Westerhof team at center court.
Abougzir is the lone Seminole ranked and he is No. 51 in the country. On Friday, he led his team to a 5-2 win over No. 34 NC State while knocking-off 46th-ranked Nick Cavaday.
