Seminoles Play USF in Final Game Of Wilkes Classic in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –
Florida State, which has won three of its first four games of the 2007-08 season, plays its fourth and final game of the inaugural Glenn Wilkes Classic as it faces USF at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Sunday at 8:30. The Seminoles won their first two games of the classic with convincing victories over Georgia Southern (92-67, Nov. 12) and UAB (78-70, Nov. 17) before falling to Cleveland State in the third round of the event (69-66 in overtime, Nov. 18). Florida State is led in the scoring column by three players – Isaiah Swann (19.8 ppg), Toney Douglas (13.0 ppg) and Jason Rich (10.8 ppg) – who are all averaging in double figure scoring for the second consecutive season. Rich is looking to average in double figure scoring for the third consecutive season. Following Sunday’s game against USF, the Seminoles will return home for a game against Georgia State Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The Seminoles will then play Florida in their annual game against the Gators Friday night at the O’Connell Center in Gainesville in a game beginning at 7:30 p.m.

SEMINOLES’ DYNAMIC TRIO LEADS SEMINOLES IN SCORING COLUMN
Florida State is led in scoring by the dynamic guard trio of Isaiah Swann (19.8 ppg), Toney Douglas (13.0 ppg) and Jason Rich (10.8 ppg). The trio is scoring an average of 43.5 points per game through the first four games of the season. Each of the three players has scored in double figures in all four of Florida State’s first four games of the season.

LOOK FOR FLORIDA STATE TO…
…Defeat USF and gain its sixth consecutive victory over an opponent from the state of Florida. The Seminoles were 4-0 against teams from the sunshine state last season with two victories over Miami, one over Florida and one over Stetson;
…Defeat USF and gain its second consecutive victory over the Bulls. The Seminoles lead the all-time series with the Bulls by a 20-11 margin and won the last game between the two teams on Jan. 2, 2002;
…Defeat USF, win its fourth game of the season and improve its record to 4-1. The Seminoles were 4-1 after five games to start the 2006-07 season, finished with a 22-13 record and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NIT.

SEMINOLES FACE FIRST-YEAR HEAD COACH IN HEATH
Florida State will play six games against first-year head coaches this season – including USF’s Stan Heath. Four of the coaches are in their first seasons as their respective schools and one is in his first year as a head coach on the Division I level. The Seminoles will play USF and Heath tonight, Rod Barnes and Georgia State on Tuesday and play host to Minnesota and its first-year head coach Tubby Smith in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Nov. 27. The Seminoles will also play Wake Forest and new Head Coach Dino Gaudio twice and travel to Indianapolis to play Butler and its first-year Head Coach Brad Stevens on Dec. 15 in the Wooden Tradition in Conseco Fieldhouse.

SEMINOLES SEEMINGLY CAN’T MISS FROM THE FREE THROW LINE
With three players who have yet to miss from the free throw line this season, Florida State is shooting an astronomical .891 and have only missed 10 shots from the free throw line in the first four games of the season. Senior guard Isaiah Swann has made all 18 of his attempts from the free throw line and is shooting a perfect 1.000 from the line through the first four games of the season.

FLORIDA STATE VS. USF – THE LAST MEETING
Monte Cummings scored 20 points as Florida State won its season-high the consecutive game with a 78-74 victory over USF on Jan, 2, 2002 at the SunDome in Tampa, Fla. Antwuan Dixon added 15 points for the Seminoles. Altron Jackson scored 23 points and added a school-record 10 steals for USF. The Seminoles held off a late USF rally to gain the victory after Delvon Arrington hit a jumper and Michael Joiner added a 3-pointer to give Florida State a 73-68 lead with 3:30 remaining. Jackson brought USF to within 76-71 with 14.7 seconds remaining and B.B. Walden hit a 3-point shot to bring the Bulls within three at 77-74 with 6.8 seconds remaining. Cummings closed out the scoring as he made one of two free throws with two-tenths of one second the close out the win for the Seminoles.
