Seminoles’ Quinney In Tie For Third at Liz Murphey Women’s Golf Classic

March 27, 2004

ATHENS, Ga. –
Florida State University senior Katie Quinney shot a one-under par 71 and moved into a tie for third place in the individual standings and is only two strokes out of the individual lead after two rounds of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Women’s Golf Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course. Quniney’s hot hand allowed Florida State to improve their standing by one position and lets the Seminoles begin play in Sunday’s third and final round in ninth place in the team standings.

Ohio State, currently ranked sixth in the nation, holds the team lead with a six stroke advantage over Georgia and a nine stroke lead over No. 1 Duke. Brittany Lang of Duke and Lindsay Knowlton of Ohio State are tied for first in the individual standings with identical 36-hole scores of 139.

Quinney (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) followed up her first round 70 with a second round 71. She moved from within five strokes of the lead after the first round to within two strokes of the lead after two rounds. Quinney’s 141 total is her career-best total for 36-holes. As she begins play in the final round, she is looking to earn her best career finish as a Seminole – her best career finish is a tie for third at the UNiversity of Alabama Invitational during the fall of 2003.

Sophomore Caroline Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) is in a tie for 29th place as she carded a four-over par 76 in the second round. She has a 151 total for the two rounds after finishing with a 75 during the first 18 holes.

Three of Florida State’s five golfers earned better scores in the second round as compared to the first round including senior Alison Curdt (78 in round two from an 81 in round one), junior Tyler Johnson (80 from an 82) and freshman Jaclyn Burch (77 from a 79).

The final round – a shotgun start – begins at 9 p.m. Sunday morning. The Seminoles have earned five top-10 team finishes in seven tournaments this year.
