TALLHASSEE, Fla. – Although Florida State Track and Field teams have yet to start the 2009 Indoor Track and Field season, the Seminoles are already celebrating. USTFCCCA ranked Florida State’s men’s and women’s track and field teams in the top 5 in the preseason polls. With No. 5 rankings for both teams, Florida State is the only program in the nation ranked among the top five in both polls.
“To be the only track and field program in the nation having two top five teams is quite an honor,” said head coach Bob Braman. “It reflects the hard work of our coaches’ recruiting and the administrative support we receive to be successful. Now we have to go out and do it.”
The No. 5 men’s indoor track and field team returns several All-Americans for the 2009 season. Junior NCAA Champion Charles Clark (Virginia Beach, Va.), the 200 meter dash runner-up, headlines the Seminoles along with sophomore 2008 Olympian Gonzalo Barroilhet (Santiago, Chile), the national champion in the heptathlon. The Seminoles finished second at last year’s indoor national championship.
Leading the No. 5 Seminoles for the women’s indoor season will be senior NCAA Champion and five time All-American Kim Williams (Kingston, Jamaica), the 2008 ACC Outdoor and Indoor Freshman of the year. The women finished in sixth-place at last year’s national championship.
Florida State will begin the 2009 Indoor Track and Field season this Friday, January 16th as both teams divide competition between the Clemson Invitational and Virginia Tech Opener.
