Seminoles Ranked No. 10 In 2016 Preseason NFCA/USA Today Poll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – For the fourth consecutive season, the Florida State softball team will open the year ranked in the top 25 by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The Seminoles begin 2016 as the No. 10 team in the country, as the NFCA/USA Today poll was announced on Tuesday. Overall, FSU will play 29 of 56 regular season games against teams ranked or receiving votes in the preseason poll.

“Preseason polls are full of potential,” said FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “There can be expectations and predictions for our team, but it means nothing if we don’t go out and put in the work and execute every day. We appreciate our spot in the preseason poll, but our goals are based on where we’ll finish in the postseason poll.”

It is the 16th time overall that the Seminoles have been ranked in the season-opening poll by the NFCA. It is the fourth time that FSU has been a top 10 team in the NFCA preseason poll, with a program-best No. 5 ranking prior to the 2015 season.

Florida State will play 16 total games against eight teams that are ranked in the 2016 preseason poll, including two games each against No. 1 Florida, No. 2 Michigan and No. 4 Auburn. The Noles will also play 13 additional games against teams that received votes in the poll.

Florida State will open the 2016 schedule in Miami, Fla., at the FIU Invitational on February 12-14, before coming home for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at JoAnne Graf Field on February 19-21 against No. 2 Michigan and No. 14 Minnesota.
