The Florida State Seminoles will be traveling to Atlanta, Georgia this weekend to compete in the 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball tournament. The fourth-seeded Seminoles will be taking on the fifth-seeded Clemson Tigers in first round action on Friday, November 22nd at 11:00 a.m. The match will be held in O’Keefe Gym on the campus of Georgia Tech University.
The Seminoles finished the regular season with an overall record of 19-11 and 10-6 in the ACC, which earned them the fourth-place seed going into the tournament. The Tribe was led all season by seniors, Kristin Frye and Alex Sevillano. Frye was the statistical leader in both kills (416) and digs (241) this season for the Seminoles. Sevillano was able to add 372 kills on the season and led the team in service aces with 57. Junior Jennifer Anderson also played well for the Seminoles, finishing the season with 1,522 assists and 220 digs. Anderson’s 1,522 assists on the season was good enough to move here into 2nd place all time among Florida State’s assists leaders. The Tribe will look to continue their success, as they begin ACC tournament play against Clemson.
Clemson (17-14, 8-8) was able to sweep Florida State in regular season play with scores of 3-2 on October 5th and 3-1 on November 9th. Senior Jessi Betcher and Sophomore Ryane Beasley led the Clemson Tigers throughout the season. Betcher and Beasley played a significant role in the victories over Florida State. In the two matches against the Seminoles Betcher combined for 104 assists and 9 digs, while Beasley tallied 26 kills and 18 digs for the Tigers.
The ACC semifinal matches are scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 23rd at 1:30p.m and 4:00p.m. The ACC Championship match will be held Sunday, November 24th at 3:30 p.m
