The Florida State women’s golf team remained in 11th place in the team standings after two rounds of the Lady Tar Heel Invitational at the Finley Golf Course. The Seminoles were led by senior Whitney Brummett, who shot an even par 72, and junior All-American Caroline Westrup who shot a four over par 76.
Florida State is 16 strokes behind first-place Tennessee in the team standings heading into Sunday’s third and final round. No. 1 ranked Duke gained ground and is only three strokes behind Tennessee in the team standings. Duke’s Amanda Blumenhurst, the top ranked individual golfer in the nation, shot a four-under par 68 and assumed the individual lead with a 36-hole score of 139.
Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) shot an even par score of 72. She shaved 10 strokes from her first round scored and moved up into a tie for 49th in the individual standings. She began the day in a tie for 84th place. Brummett carded three birdies in the second round (as compared to zero in the first round) and only three bogeys as compared to five bogeys and two double bogeys in the first round.
