Tallahassee, Fla. – The No. 39 Florida State women’s tennis team (10-10, 4-6 ACC) won its final regular season contest, picking up a 7-0 win over the Florida A&M Rattlers (7-7, 7-2 MEAC) on Friday, April 15, 2005 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
In singles, seniors Natalie Tirapelli (St. Petersburg, Fla./Connecticut) and Amberly Tantee (Dana Point, Calif./Futures) played in their final home matches as Seminoles. Tirapelli bested Alise Bailey 6-0, 6-0 while Tantee won over Melissa Murray 6-0, 6-3. Junior Alina Mihailescu (Constanta, Romania/Mircea cel Batran) held Denetta Thompson scoreless in both sets, winning 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, FSU took the point with wins at all three positions. Sophomore co-captain Roxanne Clarke (Cape Town, South Africa/Clapham) and Tantee bested Eka Jvania and Melissa Murray at the number one position, 8-2. Mihailescu and junior Lindsay Deason (Ft. Myers, Fla./Boca Raton Prep) held Bailey and Zama Mkhize to one point in the 8-1 win at the two position.
The Seminoles head to Cary, N.C. from April 21-23, 2005 for the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships.
