Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team (7-5, 2-1 ACC) won its second consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference match, beating No. 61 Maryland, 6-1, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on Friday, March 18, 2005. The Seminoles picked up two of three in doubles and five of six singles matches in the team victory.
In doubles, sophomore co-captain Roxanne Clarke (Cape Town, South Africa/Clapham) and senior Amberly Tantee (Dana Point, Calif./Futures) continued dominating their opponents, besting Maryland’s Jennifer Dent/Julie Graca, 8-1, at the number two position for the first win of the day. The pair have held their opponents to two games in as many matches.
Number one doubles clinched the point, with an 8-3 win by #12 senior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and junior Lindsay Deason (Ft. Myers, Fla./Boca Raton Prep) over the Terps’ Ramona But/Marianne Baker. The pair won its tenth match of the season.
In singles, Florida State picked up five wins in six chances, taking all but the number four position. Clarke won first, beating Baker in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Deason followed suit, taking the contest against Dent, 6-4, 6-1.
Tantee clinched the team victory with a two-set, 6-2, 6-3 win over Tamar Huppes. The senior won her fifth game of the season.
