TALLAHASSEE, Fla – The women’s NCAA Championships will start on Thursday, March 15, 2001 in Long Island, New York. The Seminoles will be represented by two individuals who have had an exceptional year for the Noles, Christy Cech and Keryn Krynauw. Cech will compete in the 50, 100, and 200 Freestyle, while Krynauw will swim in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke.
Junior Christy Cech has had a break through year for the Seminole swim team this season. Cech finished the regular season ranked second and fourth nationally in the 50 and 100 Freestyle, respectively. At the ACC Championships, she finished third in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 22.94. She also finished seventh in the 200 Freestyle and her time of 50.14 in the 100 Freestyle was good for third place overall.
Another reason for the success of the Seminoles this season has been the individual success of Junior Keryn Krynauw in the Breaststroke events. Krynauw was named ACC Swimmer of the Week in January after her stellar performance against Truman State. At the ACC Championships last month, she finished the 100 Breaststroke in a personal best time of 1:03.30, which was good for sixth place overall. In the 200 Breaststroke, Krynauw placed third with yet another personal best time of 2:14.93.
With the competition beginning on Thursday, Cech and Krynauw look to build on their momentum from the ACC Championships. They both hope to continue setting personal best times in each of their events at the NCAA Championships. The competition will last through Saturday, March 17, 2001.
