Seminoles Set Sights To Defending National Champion Gators

Nov. 20, 2007

Tallahassee, Fla.The FSU football team practiced for 20 periods Tuesday as the team really turned its focus towards the defending national champions. The Gators (8-3) and Seminoles (7-4) are both coming off wins last week. This is the first time under Bobby Bowden the teams have met were FSU has been un-ranked in back-to-back games. The Seminoles have already upset one of the nation’s top teams on the road this year (BC) and are preparing to try and do the same thing to their rivals from Gainesville.

Head Coach Bobby Bowden

On Antone Smith’s health

“Antone worked again today, he looks okay to me, no contact, but he’s running good. I think he’s okay.”

On Seddrick Holloway

“That’s probably one of the surprises of the year.  He runs so much better than you would think.”

On having a game plan for Preston Parker

“They (Florida) know it and they will prepare both ways.  It makes you prepare a little bit more, you can’t count on him always being at tailback, you can’t count on him always being at receiver so you have to be prepared for both.”

On Tim Tebow’s running ability and ability to avoid serious injury

“That’s why pros won’t run their quarterbacks, they just can’t survive it.  Boy he’s a big strong tough kid who doesn’t mind going up in the briar patch.”

DB Patrick Robinson

On   Florida’s Receivers

“They’re fast and there are a lot of them on the field at the same time.  You’ve just got to play hard and play within the scheme and that will do it for us.  We need to be more focused on their offense and what they’re trying to do.”

On being physical against the Gators

“It’s important because of the skill of their receivers.  They’re trying not to get touched so we need to be more physical and just play hard, be more focused and we should get the job done.”

On Preston Parker

“He just plays hard play after play.  He’s just more focused on the things he’s go to do, his technique, his responsibilities.  That’s why he’s starting to be a better player.”

OL Shannon Boatman

On the teams mindset going into Florida

“We’ve just got to go out there everyday at practice and focus in and practice hard.  That’s the only way we’re going to have a chance against Florida.  We’re going to have a good week of practice and we’re going to practice like we play.”

On the potential atmosphere at the Swamp

“It’s going to be a tough game and a crazy atmosphere and loud.  We’re probably not going to be able to hear Drew (Weatherford) so we’ve really got to focus in.”

On the Gator defensive front four

“I see athleticism and toughness, we’re going to have to bring that same toughness if we want to have a chance and that’s one thing their front four brings to the game.”
