TALLAHASSEE, Fla. − The Florida State men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, site of the 2008 NCAA Division I National Championship Meet, on Saturday, October 18 to participate in the annual Pre-Nationals event which is hosted by Indiana State University.

The Seminole women will open the day’s action in the 6K White Race, which is slated for 11:35 a.m. That race will feature a total of 10 nationally-ranked teams plus four others that are receiving votes in this week’s USTFCCCA coaches’ poll. Of those 10 squads, No. 3 Florida State is the highest-ranked team in the White Race. No. 1-ranked Washington will compete in the Blue Race earlier in the day.

“This is a great opportunity for us to get onto the championship course and get a competitive race in on it before the national meet,” women’s cross country head coach Karen Harvey said. “We plan on educating ourselves about the course and pushing ourselves so we are ready for the finals in November.”

The No. 13 Florida State men will compete in the 8K Blue Race, which begins at 12:10 p.m. This race is expected to be hotly-contested as a total of 12 nationally-ranked teams will compete while three other teams that are receiving votes will see action against FSU as well. Highlighting the opposition in the Blue Race will be No. 2 Oklahoma State as well as No. 6 Alabama, which is currently the top-ranked program in the South Region (FSU currently sits third in the South). Also going against FSU will be No. 15 NC State, which has been the kingpin of the Atlantic Coast Conference in cross country for the past 25 years.

“We drew a pretty good race and have the opportunity to claim a lot of at-large points for qualification into the national meet with a solid performance on Saturday,” men’s head coach Bob Braman said. “We are looking forward to going up to Indiana State and running in a highly competitive race against some of the best teams in our region as well the nation.”

In addition, Bree McArdle and Amanda Quick will participate in the 6K Women’s Open Race at 1:30 p.m., while Trey Andrews and Jason Lakritz will compete in the 8K Men’s Open Race at 2:05 p.m.

Complete results from the Pre-Nationals will be available on www.seminoles.com upon the completion of each race.
