TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Five pairs from the Florida State beach volleyball team earned the inaugural American Volleyball Coaches Association’s (AVCA) Top Flight award for their respective positions, with three pairs leading their flight.
Hailey Luke and Katie Horton led the nation at the No. 2 position, while Sara Putt and Macy Jerger sit atop the No. 3 position and Francesca Goncalves and Eva Torruella boast the best record in the No. 5 position.
The Seminoles No. 1 duo of Vanessa Freire and Tory Paranagua made an appearance in the top-5 pairs in their position, while Brooke Kuhlman and Molly McBain earned the third-best record for the No. 4 position.
Florida State is one of only three programs to have five pairs ranked in their respective flights, along with Hawaii and UCLA. FSU’s pairs are ranked above UCLA’s in all five positions, and ranked above UCLA’s in four of the five slots.
Nine other pairs from the CCSA were represented on the list, with the conference holding four spots for the No. 1 position.
The AVCA Top Flight Award is designed to reward hard work and consistent play regardless of roster position. A pair is eligible for the award if the two athletes competed in 15 matches and won at least 75-percent of their matches throughout the season were designated as Top Flight Award winners.
