CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – With a 5-1 win at The Park on Saturday, March 15, the Florida State softball team swept the three-game series against Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. Sophomore Carly Wynn and senior Brittany Osmon each knocked a home run out of the park as the Seminoles improve to 21-9 and 4-2 in the ACC.

Wynn’s homer came early in the third inning with a full count and one out on the board. It is the first home run for the center fielder this season as she improves her average to .279. Osmon now has five home runs, one shy of her career high six from last season, and now tops the Seminole squad with a .393 average.

Wynn also hit a double to finish the day 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored with Osmon going 2-for-3 overall with two RBI’s and one run against the Cavs.

The closest Virginia would come to a home run was in the bottom of the second from Lindsey Preuss whose high fly out to right field was snatched over the fence by sophomore Monica Montez. Her stellar defensive play prevented two runs from scoring which would have given the Cavaliers the advantage.

On the mound for FSU was senior Tiffany McDonald who struck out 10 Cavaliers and gave up one earned run. McDonald continues her six-game winning streak with a 7-1 record and a team leading 1.06 ERA.

Senior Whitney Buckmon returned to the lineup in game three this weekend and went 3-for-4 and scored two runs for FSU. Buckmon is now batting .386 as she tops the team with 34 hits and is one behind Osmon with 19 runs scored.

Also recording hits this afternoon were sophomores Camille Garcia and Monica Montez with two and one, respectively, and freshman Kristie McConn who also hit one.

While McDonald was able to strikeout 10, the Cavaliers’ pitching staff only had two after facing 34 FSU batters. The Seminoles scored their five runs on 11 hits, while UVA scored one on three hits and had the solo error on the day.

The overall series between the teams is now 59-15 in favor of the Seminoles who extend their winning streak to 10. FSU will host a doubleheader against Lipscomb University at JoAnne Graf Field on Tuesday, March 18, before traveling to California for the Judi Garman Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton on March 19-22.
