TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In the inaugural `StrikeOut’ Breast Cancer game between Florida State and NC State, the unpredictable Florida weather rolled in during the top of the sixth with no score on the board for either team. Play resumed after a one-four and fifty-minute delay and the Seminoles were able to clinch the 1-0 victory.
Senior pitcher Tiffany McDonald recorded six strikeouts in game one, moving closer to breaking the all-time record of 899 at FSU currently held by Jessica van der Linden. McDonald’s career total is at 888 and she needs only 11 more this season to match van der Linden and 12 to top the all-time list.
Scoring the winning run for FSU was sophomore Carly Wynn who also led the offense by recording two of the three hits on the afternoon. Wynn scored off an RBI single by Jessica Gilmore in the bottom of the sixth.
This is the first win FSU has taken over NC State since taking one from the series last season. The overall series between the teams is now tied at seven apiece.
