Seminoles Tied For 6th At Snow Filled C&F Bank Intercollegiate

March 24, 2013

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Playing in the first wave of the day, the No. 16 Florida State men’s golf team managed to play the first round of the C&F Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William and Mary, but the afternoon wave was not as fortunate and play had to be suspended due to snow. As of right now, the Seminoles are tied for sixth in the 32-team field at the Kingsmill Resort par 70 River Course with a 7-over 287.

“Chase and Rowin played solid rounds of golf today,” said head coach Trey Jones. “While the team competed today, it was evident that they do not like to play in rain suits and cold weather gear. The day brought challenges with the weather and course condition. Tomorrow we need to not let things out of our control dictate our execution.”

Playing in conditions completely opposite of what they are used to in Florida, the Seminoles struggled when the teed off hole 10 and finished the back nine with a 8-over. Florida State rebounded as they made the turn and finished the front nine with a 1-under. The Seminoles are four strokes out of first place James Madison. Four teams in front of Florida State did not finish the first round and must finish it tomorrow and play their second round. Florida State tees off Monday afternoon after the front wave is finished.

Senior Chase Seiffert and freshman Rowin Caron are both tied for fifth place by turning in 1-under 69s. Seiffert had a strong back nine with two birdies while Caron had three birdies on the front nine.

Sophomore Daniel Berger started the day with three bogeys in five holes but handled himself with poise the rest of the day to finish with a 3-over 73 to place him tied for 48th. Junior Joaquin Lolas has a 6-over 76 while senior Doug Letson posted a 7-over 77. Lolas made four birdies today but was hurt by three double bogeys.

The Seminoles are part of a 32-team field including Appalachian State, Binghamton, Boston College, Bowling Green State, Bucknell, Drake, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, George Mason, Georgetown, High Point, IPFW, James Madison, Longwood, Loyola, Marquette, Michigan, Mount St. Mary’s, Notre Dame, Radford, Richmond, Rutgers, St. Joseph’s, Saint Peter’s, No. 27 Tennessee, Toledo, Towson, UNCG, William & Mary, Wright State and Xavier.
