Seminoles Tied For Third After Two Rounds Of Hootie At Bulls Bay Invitational

Florida State University sophomore Matt Savage shot a four-under par 67 and moved into a tie for fourth place in the individual standings and the Seminoles maintained their standing as a top five team as play in the second round of the Third Annual Hootie at Bulls Bay Invitational came to a close. Savage led the Seminoles individually in the second round and is only six strokes out of the individual lead while Florida State is tied for third and only five strokes out of the team lead heading into Tuesday’s third and final round.

Savage (Louisville, Ky.) is only six strokes behind Greg Forest of UCF in the race for the individual lead. Forest holds the individual lead with a 36-hole total of 133. Savage and Forest carded identical scores of 67 in round two. Florida State is tied for third and only five strokes behind UCF in the team standings. The Seminoles are tied with Baylor and only one stroke behind second-place Wake Forest.

The Seminoles are ranked No. 25 in this week’s Golf Week / NGCA national poll.

Savage came within two strokes of tying his career best with a 67 in the second round. He began play on Monday tied for 28th place after carding a one-over par 72 and moved up 24 spaces in the individual standings with his play in the second round. Savage was nearly flawless on the day; he was one under on the front nine and three under on the back nine. He earned four birdies and only one bogie over his final nine holes of the afternoon.

Freshman Seath Lauer (Huntington, Ind.) and sophomore Nicholas Smith (Ocala, Fla.) are tied for 15th in the individual standings with two-round scores of 142. Lauer carded a 67 in round one and a 75 in the round two while Smith finished with a 69 in the first round and a 73 in the second round. Both Seminole golfers played well as Lauer played 13 holes of par or better golf while Smith was par or better on 14 of the 18 holes on the day.

Junior Jonas Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) carded a 76 and freshman Cameron Knight (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) finished with a 74 in the second round.

All five of the Seminoles golfers are in the top 30 in the individual standings and all five Seminoles are within 12 strokes of the overall individual lead heading into the final round of 18 holes.
