Seminoles’ Title Hopes May Ride on Reserve Quarterback

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State may have to change its offensive attack to accommodate Marcus Outzen if starter Chris Weinke doesn’t recover.

“We’ll try to find the things he does the best and go to that part of your game plan,” Florida State coach Bobby Bowden said Sunday. “He (Outzen) has got some things about him that everybody is looking for and that’s mobility.”

Outzen, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound sophomore, took over in the second half of Florida State’s 45-14 victory Saturday over Virginia after Weinke was knocked out of the game with a neck injury.

Weinke still had a sore neck and felt some numbness in his throwing (right) arm Sunday and was to be examined further by team medical officials Monday.

“I wouldn’t play him (Weinke) unless he’s 100 percent,” Bowden said Sunday. “I’ve got that much confidence in Outzen. He’s already passed the first test good.”
