Seminoles To Face BYU In Coaches Vs. Cancer Classic

ACC Champion Florida State will face Brigham Young in the semifinals of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic on Nov. 16 at 7:00 p.m. and either Notre Dame or Saint Joseph’s in the championship doubleheader on Nov. 17 as the championship round brackets for the season-opening event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. were announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society.

The Seminoles will open the semifinal doubleheader against the Cougars while Notre Dame will face Saint Joseph’s in the second game of the doubleheader on Nov. 16. The winners will meet in the championship game of the event at 9:20 on Nov. 17 while the consolation game will precede the championship game at 7:00 p.m.

All four games will be televised by truTV, a part of the Turner Broadcasting System.

The event begins on Nov. 9 with Florida State, BYU, Notre Dame and Saint Joseph’s hosting each two games on their campuses before travelling to Brooklyn for the seminal and championship rounds of the event. The Seminoles play host to South Alabama (Nov. 9) and Buffalo (Nov. 12) in the first two rounds of the event. Each of the four host teams will all play in semifinal and championship rounds and are all guaranteed to play four games in the event.

“When you look around our society, you see so many people affected in one way or another by this dreaded disease,” said 2012 ACC Coach of the Year Leonard Hamilton who is set to begin his 11th season as Florida State’s head coach. “I’ve always wanted to contribute as much as possible to the fight. We’re excited about the opportunity (to play in this tournament), one, to raise money, but more than anything else, to raise awareness.”

The Coaches vs. Cancer Classic ( is one of the most prestigious early-season college basketball tournaments. Twelve teams will compete in the event with four of them serving as regional hosts.
