TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State volleyball team officially begins head coach Chris Poole’s second season in 2009 by hosting the Florida State Invitational on Lucy McDaniel Court at Tully Gymnasium. In addition to the Seminoles, the two-day event from Aug. 28-29 will feature Florida A&M, North Dakota State and Central Michigan.

This season marks the second-straight year that FSU will start the season by facing the Rattlers in a tournament. The Seminoles earned a three-set sweep over their cross-town foes in last season’s Florida State Invitational. The victory over FAMU improved FSU’s record to 20-0 in the history of the series between the two Tallahassee programs.

While the Seminoles are very familiar with the Rattlers, North Dakota State and Central Michigan are another story. The Florida State Invitational will give the Seminoles their first opportunity in school history to match up against the Bison and Chippewas.

Florida A&M may have lost to FSU early in the 2008 season but that doesn’t mean the Rattlers weren’t successful as they finished first in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and earned a NCAA Tournament bid. A member of the Summit League, North Dakota State enters 2009 with high expectations as the Bison were predicted to finish in first place in their conference this season. North Dakota State returns five starters and the libero from a year ago. Central Michigan is a member of the Mid-American Conference and the Chippewas finished second in the Western Division of the MAC last season with a 19-11 overall record and 12-4 league mark.
