TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Al Thornton scored 21 points to help Florida State beat Coastal Carolina 78-65 on Thursday night.
The Chanticleers (4-6) never found an answer for Thornton, who finished 6-for-8 from the field, and 8-for-10 from the free throw line. He also added six rebounds and four steals.
Most of Coastal Carolina’s offense came from Jack Leasure. Leasure’s 13 second-half points brought his team back into the game after trailing 41-33 at halftime. He finished with 17 to lead the Chanticleers.
Coastal Carolina pulled within six points with 3:34 left in the game, but the Seminoles rattled off nine straight points to seal Florida State’s sixth consecutive win.
The Chanticleers made 6-of-13 3-pointers in the second half. Moses Sonko recorded his third double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Chanticleers, who also got 14 points from Joshua Mack.
