Seminoles Travel To Face Clemson & Georgia Tech

Oct. 8, 1999

Approaching 600

Head coach Dr. Cecile Reynaud is approaching the 600-victory plateau. Entering this week’s play, she has a total of 594 career victories, all as head coach of the Lady Seminoles. Fellow-ACC head coach Janice Kruger of Maryland notched her 600th career win when the Terrapins defeated Maryland-Baltimore County Tuesday.

Azevedo Awesome in First Start

In her first start as a Lady Seminole at Duke, sophomore outside hitter Luana Ruiz Azevedo notched personal bests in kills and digs with 15 of each registering the first double-double of her collegiate career.

Outstanding October

Florida State hopes to duplicate its October performance from 1998 this season. The Lady Seminoles were 9-1 last October falling only to North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Out of FSU’s nine October wins last year, eight were sweeps including 3-0 wins over six different ACC opponents. FSU swept Georgia Tech on the 30th, its last match of the month, and began November with a 3-1 win over Clemson in Tully Gym.

In Overtime

Florida State has had seven games in its 15 matches that have needed more than the usual 15 points for victory. The Lady Seminoles are 2-5 in these games with 17-15 game two win over Auburn and a 16-14 game two victory over Florida Atlantic. Most recently, Florida State fell 14-16 in game three against Virginia in this season’s opening home ACC matches.

Middle Hitters Star for FSU in ACC Play

Senior middle hitter Aisha Thornton and sophomore MH Norisha Campbell have led the Lady Seminoles statistically in their first four Atlantic Coast Conference matches this season. Each is averaging over 3.5 kills per game and 1.25 blocks per game. Thornton leads the team with .368 hitting percentage in ACC play. Among Atlantic Coast Conference players, Campbell ranks 3rd and Thornton 5th in blocks per game.

Injury Report

Freshman outside hitter Kristin Frye left Sunday’s match against Virginia in game two and x-rays this week revealed a hairline fracture of her right ankle. Frye is expected to be sidelined for at least the next four weeks. Freshman middle hitter Dawn Hough remains questionable for this weekend’s ACC matches at Clemson and Georgia Tech. She has been sidelined for Florida State’s last five matches due to swelling associated with a right knee sprain.
