The Florida State women’s basketball team (11-6, 2-2 ACC), amidst a stretch in which the Seminoles play 10 of 13 games on the road, will face No. 3 North Carolina (17-0, 4-0 ACC) Sunday, January 22nd at 2 p.m. at Carmichael Auditorium. FSU is fresh off its 80-66 win over Clemson Thursday while the Tar Heels earned an 85-56 win at home over Georgia Tech Wednesday.

“Carolina has a lot of great athletes,” FSU head coach Sue Semrau said. “They’re a very versatile team. They press extremely well. They’re versatile on the offensive end. A lot of players can shoot the three ball and they hit the glass hard.”

Rookie Britany Miller led the Seminoles in scoring for the second straight when she scored 14 points in the Clemson win as FSU evened its ACC record to 2-2. Ten FSU players saw action in the Clemson win and all 10 scored and recorded at least one rebound.

The Seminoles, 2-5 on the road this season, will be looking for their first ACC road win of the season as they are 0-2 in ACC road play. With a 45-27 advantage on the boards vs. Clemson, FSU outrebounded its 11th opponent but first in the last five games.

“I think our rebounding effort against Clemson is going to help us,” Semrau said. “This is what we’re going to have to put together up there. We don’t have anything to lose. If we can play with that sustained level throughout the game, it’s a 2:00 in the afternoon game and we’ll have a bunch of energy. It will be fun to go up there and take our best shot at them.”

Sunday’s Carolina game will be the third of three straight ACC road games the Seminoles have played against Top 6 nationally-ranked teams. UNC has a 24-7 advantage in the series with Florida State but the Seminoles took a 79-73 overtime victory in last season’s meeting in Tallahassee. In fact, FSU’s last two victories over UNC have been overtime games. There have been three overtime games between the two clubs in this series and all have occurred since 1998-99.

The game will be broadcast in Tallahassee on WFLA Sports Radio AM 1270 and can also be heard via the Internet at www.seminoles.com.
