Seminoles Travel To Tennessee For NCAA Division I Cross Country South Regional Championships

Nov. 10, 2006

Tallahassee – The Seminole men’s and women’s cross country teams are in their best form and ready to face their NCAA South Region opponents this Saturday, November 11. This year’s event is hosted by the University of Tennessee and takes place at the Lambert Acres Golf Club in Maryville, Tn.
“We are really excited about the NCAA Region races as it’s the beginning of the championship season for Cross Country,” Head Coach Bob Braman said.

“Saturday’s races are the qualifiers for the NCAA Championships which are November 20th at Indiana State, so we plan to be at our best and I’m very confident in both the men and women qualifying for Nationals.”

SEMINOLES AT SOUTH REGIONALS – A ticket to Nationals is exactly what the Seminoles are fighting for as they take on their south region competition. The men have qualified for the NCAA Championships in the past three years and the women are driven to qualify for the first time since 2003. Florida State has competed in the NCAA South Regionals since 1998 and began showing improvement in 2001 when both teams finished third. At the 2004 regionals the men took home the championship title but slipped one spot last year with a runner-up finish.

ACC CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP – At the ACC Cross Country Championships, held in Charlottesville, Va., the Seminole women made FSU history with their fourth place finish. The men came in second overall for the fourth year in a row just behind NC State. Freshman Susan Kuijken led the women crossing the line in sixth. On the men’s side, senior Andrew Lemoncello finished second on the heels of Clemson’s Itay Magidi.

THIS TIME LAST YEAR – The Seminole men followed a second place finish at the ACC Championships with a first place win at the NCAA South Regional Championships in Gainesville, Fla. The women placed seventh at the conference championship and third at regionals.
