Seminoles Turn In Six Top 25 Finishes At 2003 U.S. Spring Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS –
The Florida State swim team recorded six top 25 finishes at the 2003 U.S. Spring National Championships held this weekend in Indianapolis, Ind. Highlighting the weekend for the Seminoles were two top 10 finishes in the men’s 400-meter freestyle relay.


FSU’s 400-free relay team of Joel Roycik, Fernando Jacome, Michael Averett and Nnamnse Ammons placed fourth with a time of 3:29.38. Finishing in ninth-place was Chris Vythoulkas, Matt Carmen, Tal Stricker and Wickus Nienaber at 3:31.84.


The men’s 400-meter medley relay squad turned in FSU’s second top five finish of the meet. The team of Vythoulkas, Nienaber, Roycik and Ammons touched the wall in fifth place with a time of 3:53.45.


Rounding out relay competition for FSU, the women’s 400-meter free relay team of Emily Breen, Rachel Dong, Liz Parkinson and Emma Dutton finished with a time of 3:56.38, good enough for 16th place.


In individual action, Nienaber swam the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:04.09 to place 14th overall. In the men’s 50-meter freestyle, Ammons turned in a 22nd-place finish at 23.76.
