Seminole freshman guard Von Wafer, who averaged 11.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals while making six 3-point shots in three victories for the Seminoles last week, was named the ACC Rookie of the Week announced the conference office. The heralded freshman scored in double figures in all three games last week and averaged 20.0 minutes played per game as he began his collegiate career. Wafer is Florida State’s fourth leading scorer with a 9.0 points per game average entering Wednesday night’s game against Ole Miss in the Tallahassee Leon County Civic Center.
Wafer enjoyed his best game as he scored 12 points (on five of 11 shooting from the field) as he helped Florida State past South Carolina State for the Seminoles fourth consecutive victory. He made a season-high five field goals, including a 3-pointer to go along with two rebounds and two assists in the victory.
Wafer made his collegiate debut against Georgetown Nov. 24 as he scored 10 points and pulled down four rebounds in 18 minutes of playing time. He was one of five players who scored in double figures as the Seminoles defeated the Tigers. Wafer finished the game tied for the team lead in 3-point field goals made with two and among the team leaders in assists with two and blocked shots with one.
He scored 11 points – on three 3-point field goals made and two free throws – as Florida State defeated Nicholls State Nov. 26. He recorded his first two career steals in the victory over the Colonels.
Wafer is ranked third on the team in scoring (9.0 ppg) and tied for second on the team in 3-point field goals made (seven).
