TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Florida State junior Caroline Westrup, the nation’s No. 12 ranked player according to GolfStat, was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference women’s golf team in a vote by the league’s nine head coaches. It marks Westrup’s third consecutive selection to the all-conference team for the Seminole junior who is among the favorites to earn All-America First-Team honors for the third straight season. Westrup is the only the second player in Florida State women’s golf history to earn All-ACC honors three times in her career and the first in school history to earn the honor as both a freshman, a sophomore and a junior. Only Kristin Tamulis (2001, 2002 and 2003) has earned All-ACC honors three times as Seminole.

Westrup will lead the No. 26 ranked Seminoles into the 2008 NCAA Central Regional Championship at the University of Texas Golf Course in Austin, Texas, beginning Thursday. The event runs May 8-10 with the top eight teams and the top two individuals not on those eight teams advancing to the NCAA Championship finals at the University of New Mexico, May 20-23.

“I am honored to be named to the All-ACC women’s golf team for the third consecutive year,” said Westrup. With one season remaining in my career I am three-quarters of the way to reaching one of the goals I set for myself when I arrived as I freshman – I wanted to be All-ACC in each of my four years at Florida State. Another one of my goals begins again this week as I work together with my teammates to get the Seminoles back the championship finals where we can play to win a national championship. The main goal I set when I was a freshman was for Florida State to win an NCAA Championship during my career.”

Westrup is ranked 12th nationally in the GolfStat Cup rankings and 17th nationally in the GolfWeek/Sagarin Performance Rankings. She is the second highest ranked ACC player in both rankings. Westrup won the individual championship at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic and finished as the runner-up at the ACC Championship with a three-under par score of 213. She is finished under par in three of her six spring tournaments and has cut more than one stroke off of her fall stroke average (74.00) in the spring season (72.83). Westrup is the Seminoles’ leading golfer in eight of nine events in fall 2007 and spring 2008 and tied her career low for a single round with a 66 in the third round of the spring 2008 UCF Challenge.

“For Caroline to earn All-ACC honors in her first three years is a tremendous accomplishment for any golfer,” said Head Coach Debbie Dillman. “We are very proud of her because she is a fantastic representative for our program. I am most proud of the fact that she would forgo her individual accomplishments and turn them in to team accomplishments in a heartbeat. She has so much more of a team player than an individual and that is why she is so well liked by her teammates.”
