Tallahassee, Fla. – This weekend, the Florida State men’s and women’s track and field teams will send three athletes to compete against the best the NCAA has to offer. Senior Joe Allen, and juniors Laura Gerber and Shawn Brown will all represent Florida State at the Indoor NCAA Championships at the University of Arkansas.
Senior Joe Allen continued his immensely successful career, as the Toledo, Ohio native made the NCAA list in the long jump. Allen hit the sand with a 25+ foot mark twice this season, including his season-best mark at the Virginia Tech Invite (25-04.75). Allen also hit the 25-foot plateau with a 25-00.50 mark at the ACC Championships, earning him All-ACC honors. Allen was named All-ACC in the triple jump as well, finishing second with a mark of 51-04.50. His season-best mark in the triple jump was 51-06.50.
Junior Laura Gerber made the NCAA list as the No. 11 seed in the 800m run, entering this weekend’s NCAA Championships. Gerber ran a 2:07.32 in the finals for a second-place finish at the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships. Gerber currently owns the Zimbabwe national record for the 400m dash (53.88), set in 2000.
Brown, a junior from Tampa, Fla., cleared an NCAA provisional mark of 7’3.75″ in the high jump at the Kroger Invitational. He cleared 7-feet three times this season, including his two of his last three meets. Brown cleared 7-00.50 at the ACC Indoor Championships to claim a second-place finish and All-ACC honors. Brown owned the top high jump mark in the ACC this season, and currently owns the fourth-best mark in the NCAA.
The three FSU athletes will compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships beginning March 8 and ending with the 4x400m relay on March 10. The meet will take place at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
