Seminoles Wrap-Up Last Full Practice Before Facing ACC Leaders

Nov. 1, 2007

Tallahassee, Fla.The Seminole football team held its last full practice in preparation for its showdown with undefeated Boston College. The second-ranked Eagles are 8-0 and 4-0 in ACC play. They are led by Heisman candidate Matt Ryan and possess one of the nation’s best run defenses. While FSU has had success playing in Alumni Stadium, this will be unlike any of the Seminoles’ previous three trips to Chestnut Hill. The squad will have a brief walk-through on Friday before heading to the airport and departing for BC. Saturday’s game is part of a split national telecast and will be shown live in Tallahassee on ABC (Comcast cable channel 7).

QUOTES

Coach Bowden Quotes

On if the second team quarterback has been chosen:

“I don’t think so. A lot of it is according to what he (Jimbo Fisher) wants to run, or in this play this guy or this play with this guy.”

On recent injured players:

“He (Antone Smith) was better, he was better. (Andre) Fluellen worked today. We’re in better shape then we were in a week ago, I know that.”

On Seddrick Holloway:

“It’s one of those positions, kind of like offensive linemen, rarely make a name, unless they fumble something or make a mistake. He’s been very solid.”

QB Drew Weatherford

On this week’s practice:

“The offense was very good. We had a great week. Coach (Jimbo) Fisher was telling us how excited he is and seems like we were real focused all week and I felt like we had been, too and we’ve executed well. The new things we’ve put in, we’re carrying a lot of the same stuff as well. Everybody is comfortable with what we’re doing.”

On comparing this year’s game to the game two years ago at Boston College:

“It’s nice. It’s kind of the same atmosphere there. They were highly ranked that year as well. It’s a fun place to play, it’s a fun area, they love their sports up there, they have great fans. We’re looking forward to going up there and do the same thing.”

On the touchdown to Preston Parker last week against Wake Forest:

“They are coming along really well. They are both really talented guys. They have done a great job staying concentrated as far as Xavier (Lee) and I have been getting most of the time. I know how it is, it’s really tough, but they’ve done a good job of just staying focused and learning as much as they can. You can definitely depend on them if it comes down to it.”

CB Tony Carter:

On the challenges of playing against Matt Ryan:
“Our job as a defense is to not let him be the reason why he wins the Heisman Trophy. So we’re gonna go out and be very focused and try to eliminate the big plays. It’s a big opportunity not only just the defensive backs but as the defense as the whole playing like a high quality quarterback like that.”

On having to face Boston College‘s rushing and passing:

“He is well prepared mentally. He is not a quarterback that looks for one receiver. Most great quarterbacks have a main receiver they are looking to. He kind of spreads the ball around, all over the field. He’s the guy you can’t really guess on. He is very intelligent, he has the toughness to win as you see, he was getting beating up all last week against Va Tech and he came out in the last few minutes and pulled out a win.”
