Semrau Earns Honor

March 16, 2010

ATLANTA –

After leading the Seminoles to a second-straight co-ACC regular season championship head coach Sue Semrau was recognized by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) as the Russell Athletic/WBCA Regional Coach of the Year for Region 2.

Semrau led the Seminoles to a 26-4 mark in the regular season which marked the most regular season wins in school history.

FSU also climbed as high as No. 6 in the top 25 polls during the 2009-10 season reaching new heights for a program on the rise.  During the 2008-09 season the Seminoles climbed to No. 12 in the polls but never higher before the steady climb this season.

Leading the way for the Seminoles this season was senior Jacinta Monroe who was also honored by the WBCA on Tuesday.

Monroe was selected as one of seven student-athletes in Region 2 and one of 52 student-athletes in the country to be nominated.  The State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team selection committee will now trim the nominees down to 40 finalists by Tuesday, March 23 before selecting a 10-member All-America Team from the list of 40.
