Seniors Finish Preparations For Last Home Game Of Their Careers

Nov. 15, 2007

Tallahassee, Fla.The Seminole seniors have one more home game left in their careers. Saturday afternoon FSU (6-4, 3-4) will face off with Maryland (5-5, 2-4) in Doak Campbell Stadium and it will be the final game on Bobby Bowden Field for 21 Seminoles. The Terrapins have won two of the last three in the series but have never won in Doak Campbell. FSU will try to keep that streak in tact and secure a final home victory for its senior class. On Thursday the team practiced for 15 periods in shorts as they put the finishing touches on this weekend’s game plan.

QB Christian Ponder

On how he feels after getting his first snaps at Virginia Tech:

“It does give you a little confidence. It would have been little tough going from playing in the game back to third string. I’m going to try to do the best I can to stay up there. If something happens to Drew, I’ll be ready to go.

“My confidence is up, I’ve been able to relax more and I’ve started to think `I can do this stuff.’ It’s not a lot of pressure off me, but it’s helped me to relax and feel like I can perform a lot better.”

On maybe getting a chance to play at home:

“It’s going to be a lot easier at home, instead of up there (Blacksburg, VA), I’ll be relaxed more and just play my game. I don’t have to worry about getting through that first experience, I’ve already had it go past me. I think it’s kind of helped me stay focused on what’s going on.”

QB Drew Weatherford

On how he feels after his concussion at Virginia Tech:

“Good, I feel really good. Like the next day I had a little headache–I was actually surprised. I’ve heard stories about–I’ve never had one–I’d heard stories about how bad it is the next couple of days, but I felt pretty good.”

On playing Maryland this weekend:

“It’s a huge game for us, it’s another ACC game. Maryland beat us last year. It’s obviously a really big game–every game is a big game here on out for us, at this point we’ve just got to go out and play well. We were playing well for two weeks in a row, and we played pretty good considering the circumstances last week other than the little meltdown at the end of the game. But it’s definitely important for us to go out and play a full, complete game and continue playing like we were in the first two games before Virginia Tech.”

On playing the last home game with this year’s senior class:

“There’s some guys that I came in with like Jacky (Claude) that are going to be leaving. It’s definitely going to be emotional, you know they’ve been here a long time and put in a lot of hard work. As all the underclassmen, it’s important for us to send them out on a high note and to do whatever we can during the game be it physically, mentally or emotionally to just help out and give it our all.”

OL Shannon Boatman

On playing Maryland this weekend:

Maryland, they’re a pretty good team and I know they’re pretty hungry `cause they want to get that extra win to get a bowl game. They’re going to come at us, and it’s going to be a dog fight out there and we just got to go out there and play with our A game.”
