TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The No. 21 Florida State men’s swimming and diving team defeated LSU, 144-93, to earn its 11 win of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Bobby E. Leach Center. The 11 victories ties a school record for most victories in a season that was set back in 1962. In addition, the meet served as Senior Day for five Seminoles, Nnamnse Ammons, Justin Betts, Matt Carmen, Devin Crock and Joey Marshburn. All five seniors had a hand in five of the Seminoles’ 11 wins in the meet.
In honor of the seniors, head coach Neil Harper put together a 400-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Ammons, Carmen, Marshburn and Betts, who won the final event of the day at 3:03.51.
The dual meet began just as it ended, with a relay victory. The 400-medley relay crew of freshman Chris Vythoulkas, junior Wickus Nienaber, Crock and Ammons took first-place honors with a time of 3:18.29.
Betts added his third victory of the day by winning the 200-IM at 1:53.78. Marshburn turned in a winning time in the 50-free at 20:66. Crock rounded out the senior victories by taking first place in the 200-fly at 1:52.91.
Nienaber won his second event in the 200-breast with a time of 2:03.21. Rounding out the swimming victories were sophomore Alan Ribeiro in the 500-free (4:38.06) and freshman Joel Roycik in the 100-free (45.42).
The Seminoles (11-2, 3-0 ACC) will no focus on preparing for the upcoming Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. The ACC meet will take place on February 27 – March 1 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
