Final Stats

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – Seniors Tapiwa Marobela and Carolin Walter turned their combined experience into a big win for Florida State this weekend as the women’s tennis team finished strong at the annual Roberta Alison Invite in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Freshman Federica Suess also put forth a solid effort, winning her singles flight in today’s final round of solo competition.

“All in all, I would say that it was a slightly above average weekend for the Seminoles as a team,” said assistant coach Oliver Foreman. “However, there were certainly some good individual accomplishments. Carolin and Tapiwa won the doubles draw in the last match. They actually saved four match points in the finals to come back and win it. And in singles, Federica, our freshman, won her flight, so she’s playing some good tennis at the moment.”

Marobela (Gaborone, Botswana) and Walter (Bingen, Germany) played in the Crimson Doubles bracket, defeating three teams from three different schools in two days of play. Suess (Ludwigshafen, Germany) took down three singles opponents in three days, including the Crimson Tide’s own Andrea Brenes.
Out west, sophomore Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) and freshman Katie Rybakova (Coral Springs, Florida) competed in the pre-qualifying round of the FILA/ITA Riviera All-American Tournament. As a doubles team, the two lost a tough match, finishing 8-6. In singles, Rybakova won her first set, but dropped the second two, coming up short in the end.

Macfarlane will compete in the singles qualifying round Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Following the conclusion of the Riviera tournament, Florida State will travel to Athens, Ga. for the ITA South Regionals hosted by the University of Georgia Oct. 20-23.
