Sestilio Leads Seminole Men’s Golf Team At Kiawah Island Intercollegiate

Sept. 8, 2003

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. –
Florida State University junior Mark Sestilio is in a tie for fifth place in the individual standings and the Seminole men’s golf team is in a tie for 11th place in the team standings after the first round of the Cleveland Golf/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate at Turtle Point Golf Course. The event has been cut from three rounds to two after inclement weather pushed the start of the first round back by more than five hours and limited the entire field in completion of play during Monday’s first round.

The tournament originally called for two rounds of play Monday and a final round Tuesday, but a torrential downpour halted play until 12:30 in the first round. With the first group having completed only nine holes, the decision was made by the coaches to cut out the third round and play the second and final round beginning Tuesday morning at 7:45 a.m.

Sestilio (Punta Gorda, Fla.) came within one shot of tying his career-low single-round score as he carded a one-under par 71. Sistilio was on fire on his first nine holes as he shot a 32 and followed with a 39 on his second nine. He missed tying his career-low score of 70 by only one stroke. Sestilio is eight strokes behind the individual leader Aron Price of Georgia Southern who carded a seven-under par 65. Mississippi, with two players in the top 15 and three in the top 30 of the individual standings, is the team leader heading into the final round of play.

It marked the second time during his career that he had shot a 71 or better during his Seminole career. His career low 70 came during the second round of the 2003 Seminole Intercollegiate while a 71 came during the 2003 Cleveland Golf Collegiate.

Junior Matt Adcock (Apopka, Fla.) played well and carded a two-over par 74 despite the wet conditions. He is in a tie for 23rd-place heading into the final round. Adcock has posted three previous top 25 career finishes.

The event is the first of the season for the Seminoles who are competing for the first time under new head coach Trey Jones. Jones was hired in July as the Seminoles head coach and director of golf operations.
