Seven From Men’s Basketball Team Named To ACC Academic Honor Roll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Seven members of the nationally ranked Florida State men’s basketball team are part of a record-number of Seminole student-athletes who have all been named to the 2018 ACC Academic Honor Roll as announced by the conference office. It marks the second consecutive year at least seven members of the basketball team have been named to the list, bringing their two-year total to 16.

Led by four-time honoree Brandon Allen (Milton, Fla./Electrical Engineering), five of the seven Seminoles named to the list are repeat honorees – Trent Forrest (Chipley, Fla/Sport Management), Justin Lindner (Memphis, Tenn./Math Education), Will Miles (Orlando, Fla./Finance) and Harrison Prieto (Mandeville, La./Meteorology) – while Anthony Polite (Lugano, Switzerland/Finance) and Ike Obiagu (Abuja, Nigeria/Marketing) were first time honorees as freshmen.

“Our guys continue to do a great job in the class room,” said Head Coach Leonard Hamilton. “I’m really proud of this team and their academic success. Brandon Allen earned his degree in electrical engineering and was a member of our team for five years. That’s an amazing accomplishment. I’m proud of the success our guys are enjoying as they all continue to progress towards their degrees.”

Florida State earned tremendous academic success as it enjoyed one of the most outstanding seasons on the basketball court in school history. The Seminoles won 23 games, won the championship of the inaugural Jamaica Classic and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

“The aspect of their academic success that I am proudest of was how well the entire team performed in the class room during the spring semester,” said Hamilton. The staff in our academic support unit and the tutors who work with our guys did a really great job, and we are sincerely appreciate of their efforts.”

The Seminoles’ academic achievements in 2017-18 continues an incredible trend under Hamilton since he became Florida State’s head coach in 2002. More than 94 percent of the Seminoles’ players under Hamilton have earned their degrees.
