TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State was rewarded for another successful season in 2008 as Soccer Buzz announced its postseason accolades. A total of eight Seminole student-athletes were honored by the soccer publication on both the national and regional level.
Headlining the list of honorees were sophomores Amanda DaCosta and Sanna Talonen who were tabbed first team All-Americans while being recognized as finalists for Player of the Year. Senior captain Sarah Wagenfuhr was named a second team All-American following a career season.
In their first season with the Garnet and Gold, Tiffany McCarty and Tori Huster were honored as Freshmen All-Americans earning a spot on the first and third team, respectively. McCarty was a finalist for National Freshman of the Year, while the Laurel, Md., native was named the top freshman in the Southeast Region. It marked the second year in a row (Amanda DaCosta) and third time overall (Emma Breland, 2000) that a Seminole student-athlete was named Freshman of the Year in the Southeast Region.
Florida State and conference foe North Carolina each featured five student-athletes on the All-Southeast Region first team to lead all schools. Highlighting the Seminole honorees were senior Sarah Wagenfuhr, junior Becky Edwards, sophomores Amanda DaCosta and Sanna Talonen and freshman Tiffany McCarty. Joining McCarty on the All-Freshman Southeast Region squad were Tori Huster, Casey Short and Ella Stephan.
