After leading the Seminoles to two victories the past week, including an 80-74 win over No. 2 Duke, Florida State freshman point guard Shante Williams has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon. It is the second such honor for Williams this season.
Williams averaged a team-high 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.5 steals in last week’s wins and shot 63 percent from the field and 64 percent from the free throw line. Against Duke, the Jacksonville, Fla., native led Florida State with 20 points, which tied her career high, five rebounds, eight assists and three steals. The win snapped the Blue Devils’ 51-game ACC winning streak. Williams followed that up with a strong performance in the win over Clemson, turning in 12 points, six rebounds and six assists. The Seminoles never trailed in the game vs. the Tigers and completed the sweep of Clemson with the victory.
Overall, Williams is second on the team in scoring at 10.6 points per game and is averaging 5.0 rebounds (third on the team) and a team-high 5.1 assists per game which ranks second in the ACC. She has scored in double figures in 10 games, including eight ACC contests, and leads FSU in ACC scoring at 13.4 points and rebounding at 5.5 boards per game.
