Shinikki Whiting Will Not Play Basketball

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State women’s basketball head coach Sue Semrau has announced that senior guard Shinikki Whiting will no longer play basketball at Florida State. This was a mutual decision by Semrau and Whiting, who will maintain her scholarship and is scheduled to graduate this spring.

“It is unfortunate that Nikki will not be a part of our team this year,” Semrau said. “She has been an important part of our program over the past three years and we wish her all of the best as she completes her degree this spring.”

Whiting played in 78 games and averaged 8.1 points and 3.3 rebounds per game over the past three years. Last season, she started 26 contests for the Seminoles and averaged 11.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while leading the team in free throws made and three-point baskets.

“It’s going to be hard leaving this team because I love them very much and they have been a huge part of my life the last three years,” Whiting said. “I have grown so much as a person and learned so much from Coach Sue and feel it’s time for me to focus on my future, but I will continue to support them and will be their biggest fan.”
