SORRENTO, Fla –
Florida State sophomore Macarena Silva shot a two-under par 70 and moved into a tie for 17th in the individual standings and the Seminoles moved to 17th place in the team standings after two rounds of the UCF Challenge at the Red Tail Golf Course. Silva has a 143 total for the first 36 holes of the 54 hole event and begins play in Tuesday’s final round only three strokes outside of the top five of the individual standings.
Arizona State carded the best team round of the day – a four-under par 284 – to move into first place in the team standings. The Sun Devils are one stroke ahead of UCLA as the two national powerhouses battle for the championship of one of the top regular season tournaments in the nation this spring. Jessica Yadlocsky of the University of Florida shot a two-under par 70 and held onto the individual lead with a 136 total for the first two rounds. She is two strokes ahead of Nichole Smith of Tennessee.
Silva led the Seminoles in the second round with a two-under par 70. Her score is the best of the first two rounds of the tournament for the Seminoles. Silva carded a 73 in round one and bettered her score by three strokes in the second round. Her score of 70 is her career best during her two-year career at Florida State.
Senior All-American Caroline Westrup carded a 75 in the second round and is in a tie for 29th place in the individual standings with a two-day total of 146. She carded a 71 in the first round of the event.
The event concludes with a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
