Florida State University junior Macarena Silva shot a final round 74 and finished in a tie for 19th place in the individual standings and the No. 26 ranked Seminole women’s golf team finished in a tie for sixth place in the team standings at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Coco Beach Golf Club. The finish marked the Seminoles’ fourth top six team finish in five events this year after they won the Lady Wildcat Invitational and earned two second place teamfinishes during the fall season.
Alabama, who took over the lead in the second round, won the team championship with an 11 stroke victory over Purdue. The Crimson Tide led the event with three players who finished in the top 10 of the individual standings. Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State carded a 70 in the third round and finished with a 54-hole total of 209 to gain the individual championship.
Silva (Santiago, Chile) played a very consistent tournament as she averaged 75.00 strokes in the three round event. She finished the final two rounds of the event with scores of 73-74 after carding a 78 in the first round. Silva’s top 20 finish was the fourth in her last five events and the fifth of her career.
Freshman Jessica Negron (Ocala, Fla.) closed the event with a 77 and a 226 total. She finished in a tie for 21st place to garner her fourth top-25 finish in the first five events of her career.
The Seminoles play in their next event at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge at the Kinderlou Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga., March 1-2.
