TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The NCAA announced the Singles and Doubles Championship Draws today, May 25. Seniors Jean-Yves Aubone and Vahid Mirzadeh found out their opponents and will both be facing Buckeyes in the first round of the singles championships.
No. 31 Aubone (Miami, Fla.) will face the No. 7 seed Chase Buchanan of Ohio State Wednesday at noon. He was selected for the third consecutive season to play in singles. This season Aubone was named to the All-ACC team for the third time and is the ITA Southeast Region’s Senior Player of the Year. Buchanan is the 2010 Big Ten Player of the Year and the ITA Midwest Region’s Player to Watch.
Mirzadeh will be making his first singles tournament appearance as an at-large selection against Ohio State’s Justin Kronauge at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wellington, Fla., native was named to the All-ACC team this season after posting a 20-5 singles record. Mirzadeh is currently No. 54 in the nation in singles while upsetting two players ranked in the top ten. Kronauge is the ITA Midwest Region’s Senior Player of the Year and is riding a 24-match win streak in singles.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 26-31 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 21-25). Live stats and video can be found here. 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championships
