TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Former Florida State softball student-athlete Michelle Snyder is competing with the United States Baseball Women’s National Team as it hosts a week-long friendly against Canada and the Raleigh Red Sox.

The USA Baseball Women’s National Team is paired into two teams, with Snyder representing the blue squad with the other being USA Red. This evening, Canada defeated USA Blue, 13-12, at the National Training Complex as Snyder batted out of the No. 3 spot and finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and one walk while fielding at third base and shortstop.

Snyder’s squad plays six more games in the Women’s International Friendship Series that ends on Aug. 7. USA Blue will face USA Red on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 4 p.m., followed by another nightcap against Canada at 7:30 p.m. All games are played at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary.

USA Blue also plays on Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. against USA Red, then faces the Raleigh Red Sox men’s team on Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. Another matchup against Canada awaits on Saturday at 5 p.m. before finishing with USA Red on Sunday at 9 a.m.

Snyder lettered at FSU from 2006-09 after coming to Tallahassee from her hometown of Wenatchee, Wash., to major in sport management. Besides being a reliable presence in the infield, Snyder was an academic standout who was chosen as a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team member following her senior year in 2009. She was also a golden torch honoree, a two-year Seminole Softball Leadership Council member and a Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) member.

“It’s fantastic to see another former Seminole doing something special on a national scale,” FSU head coach Lonni Alameda said after watching former player Kaleigh Rafter represent Canada in the Softball World Cup two weeks ago. “Michelle has always been such a hard worker and is the consummate team player who has earned everything she’s worked for. Our program is very proud of her post-softball achievements and looks forward to the rest of her competition with the USA Baseball Women’s National Team.”
