TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With just two days left until the official start of the 2009 soccer season, Soccer America announced its preseason Top 25 and preseason All-Americans for the upcoming year.
Florida State received its third preseason top 10 ranking this fall as Soccer America has the Seminoles ranked No. 7 to open the 2009 campaign. TopDrawerSoccer.com and the NSCAA both have the Seminoles ranked at No. 6 in their respective preseason polls. FSU has reached at least the NCAA Quarterfinals in each of the last four seasons.
The Seminoles are one of four schools (North Carolina, Notre Dame and UCLA) with multiple student-athletes named to Soccer America’s preseason All-American teams. Senior Becky Edwards and junior Amanda DaCosta were honored on the first and second teams, respectively, by the soccer publication. The two Seminoles were both named to the watch list of the MAC Hermann Trophy, presented to the nation’s top collegiate player, earlier this year.
The Atlantic Coast Conference led conferences with six preseason All-America honorees, while North Carolina led all schools with three.
Florida State opens the 2009 season on Friday, August 21 against Jacksonville University at the Seminole Soccer Complex. Game time for the season opener is 7:00 p.m.
